Zusammenfassung
Die amyotrophische Lateralsklerose ist eine Systemerkrankung, die einen raschen, zum Tode führenden Erkrankungsverlauf zeigt. Der im Mittel dreijährige Verlauf bedingt die Notwendigkeit für psychotherapeutische Angebote zur Stabilisierung im Sinne der Krankheitsakzeptanz durch eine Sterbebegleitung. Das Sterben ist als Teil des Lebens anzusehen, das gemäß der christlichen Soziallehre der Würde des Menschen zu entsprechen hat. Es wird versucht, eine Begründung für die Notwendigkeit der Hospizarbeit darzustellen. Dabei geht es um die Geschichte der Hospizarbeit und um gesellschaftliche Verleugnungsprozesse. Sterbens- und Trauerbegleitung wird aus dem Blickwinkel der Psychoanalyse betrachtet.

Between acute medical care and hospice work: The amyotrophic lateral sclerosis

Abstract
The amyotrophic lateral sclerosis is a systemic disease; its course is fast and lethal. The course of the disease averages three years. In this stretch necessarily psychotherapeutic support should be offered in order to establish acceptance of the disease as part of the companionship in the process of dying. In this context dying is to be considered as part of life, which must conform to human dignity in accordance with the christian social doctrine. First an attempt is made to depict the necessity of hospice work. The history of hospice-work and its relation to social strategies of coping with problems is pointed out. Hospice work is demonstrated from the view-point of psychoanalysis.
