Kurt Goldstein und Adhémar Gelb:
Haben sie eine Aktualität für die heutige Neurorehabilitation und Neuropsychologie?

Zusammenfassung
Dieser Beitrag geht den Fragen nach, ob Goldsteins und Gelb Vorstellung von zwei Grundformen menschlichen Verhaltens, einer abstrakten und einer konkreten Haltung, und das Konzept der Katastrophenreaktion den veränderten Zeiten widerstanden und heute noch eine Aktualität für die klinische Neurorehabilitation haben [31]. Publikationen verschiedener Autoren aus der kognitiven Psychologie und der Neuropsychologie belegen, auch ohne sich explizit auf Goldstein zu beziehen, dass beide Konzepte auch in der heutigen Zeit relevant sind. Beispielsweise hat die Annahme einer Dominanz der konkreten Verhaltensweisen nach einem Hirntrauma eine Bedeutung für die Aufgabenstellung in der Rehabilitation. Das Konzept der Katastrophenreaktion findet eine Resonanz in der aktuellen Diskussion um die Rekonstruktion des Selbst nach einer Hirnverletzung. Goldstein und Gelb sind in ihrer klinischen Herangehensweise, in der die Person mit einer Hirnverletzung im Mittelpunkt steht und nicht ihre Symptome, Wegbereiter einer personzentrierten Neurorehabilitation.

Goldstein’s and Gelb’s holistic concepts: are they relevant for today’s neuropsychology and neurorehabilitation?

Abstract
This work is discussing whether Goldstein’s and Gelb’s two concepts about human behavior after brain injury, namely the abstract and concrete attitude and the concept of catastrophic reaction can still be transferred into the practice of today’s clinical neurorehabilitation [31]. Various publications from cognitive psychology and neuropsychology affirm the actuality of Goldstein and Gelb’s approaches, even though not directly referring to them. For instance, the predominant concrete attitude is of particular relevance for setting tasks in the rehabilitation of persons with a neurotrauma. Furthermore, the concept of catastrophic reaction is reflected by the ongoing discussion on the reconstruction of self after brain injury.
The focus in Goldstein and Gelb’s clinical approaches is set on the individual person and not his or her symptoms. Therefore, both authors can be regarded as pioneers of a person centered neurorehabilitation.
