Kognitive Defizite bei Patienten mit alkoholbedingtem Korsakow-Syndrom

Zusammenfassung
Durch langjährigen exzessiven Alkoholkonsum kann es zur Ausprägung des sogenannten Korsakow-Syndroms kommen, das gekennzeichnet ist durch deutliche kognitive und das Gedächtnis betreffende Beeinträchtigungen. Auf Hirnebene stellen verschiedene strukturelle und funktionelle Änderungen Korrelate der Symptome dar. Im vorliegenden Beitrag wird ein Überblick über die neuropsychologischen Hauptsymptome gegeben. Zudem werden die Ursachen des Korsakow-Syndroms sowie neuropathologische Änderungen beschrieben.

Cognitive deficits in patients with alcohol-related Korsakoff's syndrome

Abstract
Long lasting and excessive alcohol consumption can lead to the development of Korsakoff's syndrome characterised by severe mnestic and cognitive deficits. Symptoms of Korsakoff's syndrome are associated with various structural and functional brain alterations. In this article we give an overview of the main neuropsychological deficits in patients with Korsakoff's syndrome. In addition, potential causations and neuropathological changes linked to the syndrome are summarised.
