Motive, Einstellungen und Erwartungen im sozialen Ehrenamt – empirische Pilotstudie am Beispiel eines Besuchsdienstes für Senioren

Zusammenfassung
Freiwillige Besuchsdienste für ältere Mitbürger wirken der sozialen Isolation von Senioren wesentlich entgegen. Von diesen Ehrenamtlichen wird ein hohes Maß an Verantwortung und professionelles Wissen im Umgang mit Klienten erwartet. Was motiviert Mitbürger für dieses Engagement, welche Haltungen und Erwartungen prägen ihren gesellschaftlichen Einsatz? Um dieser Thematik nachzugehen, wurden 22 Freiwillige eines Besuchsdienstes (20 w, 2 m; Alter 28 – 83 Jahre) standardisiert befragt (nominale und rangskalierte Items) und die Daten mittels Kreuztabellenanalyse (Chi2-Test, Cramer’s V) ausgewertet. Die meisten Ehrenamtlichen haben sich bereits vorher sozial engagiert, finden sich emotional in ihrer Tätigkeit wieder und üben diese zehn Jahre und mehr aus. Sie profitieren von professioneller Begleitung durch Sozialarbeiter und schätzen mögliche Belastungen durch das Amt per se und Krisen wie das eigene Alter realistisch ein. Häufig entwickeln sich tragfähige und langfristige Beziehungen zwischen den Freiwilligen und Klienten.

Motivations, attitudes and expectations in social posts of honour: Empirical analysis of service for regular visits of the elderly

Abstract
Voluntary services for regular visits of the elderly substantially ameliorate social isolation of the aged population. This commitment requires a good deal of responsibility and professional knowledge in order to care for the clients. What are the motivations, attitudes, and expectations of these socially active men and women? To assess this question 22 volunteers of a service for visits of the elderly (20 w, 2 m aged 28 – 83 years) were interviewed by means of a standardized form (nominal and rank-scaled items). The data underwent cross tabulation analysis including Chi2-test and Cramer’s V. Most of the volunteers had been involved in other social commitments beforehand and enjoyed their current activity for more than ten years. They accept and
benefit from professional support by social workers. With regard to possible burdens due to the service per se or individual factors such as their own age the volunteers were quite realistic. Frequently, volunteers and clients
develop a long-term and sustainable personal relation.
